Roslin draws 5 names from a list of ship captains to appoint as judges for Baltar’s tribunal, and Adama happens to be the fifth captain. On Galactica, Sam Anders grieves over Starbuck on a Viper, causing a scene and injuring his leg when he falls from the Viper.
Racetrack preps her Raptor to shuttle Baltar’s attorney Alan Hughes back to the Zephyr, but when the attorney enters the Raptor, a hidden bomb explodes, killing the attorney.
Roslin has a press conference and says she won’t let any attacks obstruct the fair trial for Baltar. In the pilot briefing room, Apollo accidentally calls Racetrack Starbuck, leading to an embarassing moment.
Roslin and the judges manage to find a counsel for Baltar - Romo Lampkin, a very strange person who wears an overcoat and sunglasses and is apparently doing it for the “fame”. He also has a cat which belonged to his late wife.
Adama grounds Apollo because he doesn’t think Apollo is fit for duty and so assigns Helo as CAG (Commander of Air Group) and puts Apollo in charge of security for Lampkin. They talk a little about Joseph Adama, Apollo’s grandfather. They choose to meet in Apollo’s quarters in case Lampkin’s quarters are booby-trapped. They all have a meeting and Baltar writes down notes.
Athena is in charge of shuttling Lampkin to Colonial One and back, but his cat escapes and while trying to get the cat out of the bottom of the Raptor, he finds a bomb. The bomb doesn’t go off luckily, and Adama has a chat with Apollo about staying focused on duty. Tyrol determines someone on the flight deck is the assassin. Cally blames it on Athena because she is Cylon and Athena is outraged on how Cally would think how she could want to bomb her own Raptor.
Lampkin interviews Number Six in a interrogation room and gives her Baltar’s pen, which was a symbol of what limited freedom Baltar would give up for her. Six says the guards won’t let her have it, while Baltar is freaking out in his cell because he lost his pen.
A deckhand hands Lampkin some paperwork from Colonial One and the marines check the box for bombs and one notices a screw on the deck, and shoves Lampkin to the ground just as the keypad explodes.
Lampkin survives and they talk about the stuff in his bag. Apollo finds part of an explosive device in the bag and Lampkin says it’s from Captain Kelly, and so Apollo talks with him. Kelly admits that he’s the bomber and says he will continue his attacks as long as Baltar is still alive.
Apollo is now the CAG again, after talking to Adama and Adama doesn’t want Apollo to help Lampkin, saying it’s too dangerous. Apollo then puts a picture of Starbuck next to Kat’s in the memorial hallway on Galactica, and the two finally come to terms about Starbuck.
In an envelope from Lampkin, Baltar receives his pen and a note saying: “There’s no greater ally, no force more powerful, no enemy more resolved than a son who chooses to step from his father’s shadow.”
